Success Knowledge Money Trap

Taking a step back from real estate, in this article I would like to give you all some advice that has served me well up to this point in my life. The things that I will tell you about have had an influence on myself and Nexus™  as a whole. If you follow this advice your chances for success will be improved GREATLY!

Knowing What You Don't Know.

Know What You Don't Know

The funny thing about venturing off into your business career is that you will never know what is going to happen until it actually does. Once something happens and it’s in your face you will need to know how to react. This brings me to my first piece of advice I received; I was 22 years old. Believe it or not I acquired it at a funeral. It may sound odd, but it’s the truth. You never know where your next lesson will come from. The woman, who I don’t remember her name, said “if someone asks you a question and you don’t know the answer tell them ‘sir/ma’am I don’t know that but I will find out right away and get back to you”. At that time, it seemed so basic and surface level; I really didn’t appreciate. However, as I started navigating my career as a leasing agent, general manager, and now VP I have found there have been plenty of times where I didn’t know the answer, but based on my position I held the power to give a bullshit answer (if I wanted to).

What I have realized is that people will respect you MORE when you are honest about the extent of your knowledge. If you always have the answers, that is suspicious, and you are a SHADY BIRD! No one is perfect, and you need to able (and comfortable) admitting that. Thank you to that lady, whoever you are LOL!

Masks Are Worn By Many.

Mask Hidden

Next up, was advice that I received indirectly and through my experiences in all types of situations. From what I’ve seen people who dress the fanciest have the most to hide and often know the least. The fancier the suit, the jewelry, the makeup, the purse, etc. the more they are trying to blind you and cover up inefficiencies/lack of knowledge they have. I’m the VP of a nationwide franchise company but you will usually find me wearing sweatpants that have paint stains on them. I’m comfortable in my own skin and have nothing to hide. People respect you more when they can relate to you and you are approachable. Try to keep your dress attire simple and professional; don’t overdo it.

Be Authentic.

So, your honest and dressed appropriately, what’s next? Next is talking and typing like a normal human. No one wants to read “kind regards” or “warmest regards” or even “sincerest apologies”. That’s all nonsense. Talk like a person, and people will gravitate to you more. In addition to that, throw in a joke or a smiley face occasionally. In today’s business environment there is such pressure to perform quickly and at a high octane (all the time). Your small joke or meme/GIF could be the one that makes someone’s day, and in addition to that strengthens your relationship with that person. Being serious or communicating like an English Parliament Member is not the way to go.

Stop Deadbeating & Look For Constant Improvement.

Nexus’ CEO Nick D’Agnillo has chipped in with this next piece of advice, and it goes quite simply; “Don’t be a deadbeat”. Once again, it may sound simple enough, but we all deadbeat everyday without even knowing it! For example, you shouldn’t be faxing anything anymore. If you are, you are probably deadbeating. You also shouldn’t be leaving voicemails; you should be texting summaries. You shouldn’t be threatening people, if you are you are deadbeating. You shouldn’t be shutting your phone off, if you are you are deadbeating. You shouldn’t be waiting more than 24 hours to reply to customers/clients, if you are you are deadbeating. The list goes on and on, but you get the point. You need to be on your game everyday morning, noon, and night (weekends and holidays included). Keep a to do list in Google Keep, keep alerts on your phone, respond right away whether you know the answer or not, stay in touch, stay alert, and stay informed. When you start to slack you are only hurting yourself and your pockets. Don’t do it! Don’t be a deadbeat! Thank you Nick!

Make YES Your Default Response To Strengthen All Your Relationships.

Finally, my personal favorite, is advice from my Dad. My Dad was a blue-collar worker his whole life. He worked in a sheet metal factory, picked trash, and was also a mason/caulker. He always taught me the importance of showing up when called upon. If someone asks you for help or assistance; do it, go help them. Each time that you say “No” to someone it only hurts your future relationship. It may be as simple as helping them move or changing their tire. Whatever it is say “yes” as much as possible. Obviously don’t kill yourself saying “yes” to the whole world but focus on uplifting your circle/network of friends/colleagues as much as you can. I can tell you stories about folks I’ve helped with simple things (like helping setup their business Facebook Page) who know have since bought multiple properties with Nexus™  because they felt a grassroots relationship from the beginning. It may seem unrelated to what you need at that given time, but your actions will only build your resume for the lifetime ahead of you. Don’t miss an opportunity to be great and standout.

Nexus Feedback

My experience with Mikalai at Nexus was exceptional. His communication was prompt, open, honest, and very professional. I was looking to move into a property as soon as possible and he went out of his way to make that happen. Not only that, but he made sure that all of my concerns were addressed and needs were met in the process. Thank you so much again for your assistance. I wish you continued success moving forward.

Tom and his partner were fantastic. They came and installed my shower faucet in no time at all. Both gentlemen and I sincerely mean that at all phases. Terrific people that care about their work. Thanks Tom
